Why isn't my primary name showing?

Find out why your primary name doesn't show in other apps, and fix it in the ENS App or ENS Explorer.

A primary name needs two pieces: your address points to your name, and your name points back to your address. If only one is set, apps show your 0x address.

The ENSv2 launch doesn't stop a name showing: names you haven't upgraded keep resolving, and primary names you already set keep working.

Never set one? See Set your primary name.

Your name shows in the ENS apps but not elsewhere

If your primary name shows in the ENS App or ENS Explorer but not on another site, that site may check different records. Etherscan, for example, reads your name's ETH Address, not the Default address, and does not read primary names set for one L2.

Your name does not show in the ENS apps either

ENS Explorer reads from an index that can lag, so wait and refresh. If your name still does not show, open your name in ENS Explorer and go to Address Resolution. Each network has a row with a Reverse match. To fix a row that shows False:

  1. Connect the wallet that holds the name.

  2. On that row, select More.

  3. If the address is missing or wrong, enter yours and select Save, then Start.

  4. If it says the address does not resolve back to this name, select Set primary name, then Start.

  5. Approve each transaction in your wallet.

A Default primary name and the Default address are a pair. Neither works until both are set.

In the ENS App, a name you haven't upgraded needs an ETH address before you can set it as primary. If it has none, upgrade it first (see Upgrade your name to ENSv2), or set it in ENS Explorer (see Set your primary name in ENS Explorer).

Your name shows on Ethereum but not on an L2

Your name doesn't point to your wallet on that network yet. You can fix it in two ways: give that network an address of its own, or set one Default address that covers every EVM chain without its own. In the ENS App, adding the network in Edit Profile gives it your ETH Address. For a Default address, see Set your primary name in ENS Explorer.

A name set for just one chain takes a while to show there: about 1 hour on Scroll, about 6 hours on Base, Arbitrum and Optimism, and 8 to 24 hours on Linea.

The transaction will not go through

Setting a primary name is a transaction. In the ENS App and in ENS Explorer you need a little ETH for network fees (gas). Top up and try again. If your wallet prompt never appeared, refresh the page and reconnect your wallet.
