cb.id subnames from Coinbase

ENS names from Coinbase

Updated this week

Coinbase Decentralized ID (cb.id)

Coinbase offered Coinbase-managed ENS usernames under the cb.id namespace, allowing users to have personalised, memorable identifiers linked directly to their Ethereum wallet addresses. The cb.id domain is a DNS-based name that was enabled as an ENS name through the ENS protocol, allowing Coinbase to create subnames. (Learn more about onchain imports)

With over 13 million usernames registered, cb.id provided an accessible way for users to interact easily with web3 using straightforward addresses like username.cb.id.

Managing Your cb.id Subname

Management and support for existing cb.id usernames remain exclusively through Coinbase’s platforms. Due to this setup:

  • The ENS App cannot be used to manage or configure these names.

  • All configurations and updates must be performed via Coinbase Wallet or associated Coinbase platforms.

Support and Issues

For assistance managing your cb.id username or addressing related issues, contact Coinbase Support directly:

ENS support team are not able to provide support with cb.id usernames.

cb.id Subname Features and Limitations

cb.id usernames offer a simple way to use ENS, but with a few key limitations:

  • They are non-transferrable between wallets.

  • Names are offchain

  • You cannot create subnames under your cb.id username.

  • Fuse permissions with the NameWrapper are not supported.

  • Limited record setup. Not all the records and features are available as they are with owning your own .eth ENS names.

Register your own .eth name

Having a cb.id subname doesn't prevent you from registering your own standalone .eth domain. Once you have your .eth name, you can also create and manage your own custom subnames.
