These are display issues only—your assets are safe on the blockchain even if your wallet shows them incorrectly. You can verify ownership anytime using Etherscan or the app.ens.domains.
Note: If your Primary Name isn't displaying in apps, see Primary Name Troubleshooting instead.
When in doubt - Refresh Metadata
The solution for issues listed is to Refresh Metadata on your name in OpenSea. Many services use OpenSea's NFT API service, which has delayed updates. See OpenSea display issues and how to fix them
Note: This is an OpenSea issue, not an ENS issue. Your name is registered correctly on the blockchain regardless of how it displays in MetaMask.
1. ENS name NFT shows as "unknown"
If your ENS name appears as "unknown" or shows a blank image in MetaMask, this is caused by outdated metadata from OpenSea's API. MetaMask relies on OpenSea to display NFT information. Refresh OpenSea's metadata to solve the issue.
2. ENS name not appearing after registration
If you just registered an ENS name but it doesn't show in your wallet's NFT section:
Wait a few minutes. Some wallets take time to detect new NFTs.
Refresh your wallet. Close and reopen the app, or pull down to refresh.
Check on Etherscan. Search your wallet address confirm the Register transaciton completed.
Refresh OpenSea metadata. If your wallet uses OpenSea's API (like MetaMask), refreshing the metadata on OpenSea can help.
If Etherscan shows the NFT in your wallet, you own the name—it's just a display delay.
3. NFT showing outdated information
If your ENS name displays old records, an outdated avatar, or incorrect ownership information in your wallet or on third-party sites:
For wallet display issues:
Refresh the metadata on OpenSea (see above)
Wait 24–48 hours for caches to update
If the ENS App shows the correct information, your records are set correctly on the blockchain.
