ENSv2 is coming. Here's what's changing: names with 5 or more characters will cost $8 a year, multi-year terms get up to about 44% off, and the grace period after a name expires will shrink from 90 days to 28. When ENSv2 launches and you upgrade an existing name, you'll get 62 extra days added once, so your grace period still ends on the same date either way.
Prices
The yearly price for names with 5 or more characters is going from $5 to $8. Prices for 3- and 4-character names aren't changing.

Multi-year discounts
The more years you add at once, the bigger your discount — and it applies to every year in that term. Years your name already has don't count towards the total. The same discount tiers apply whether you're registering or renewing:

Tip: 6 years costs less in total than 5: $27.00 against $27.50.
Pay with stablecoins
Once ENSv2 launches, you'll pay registration and renewal fees in stablecoins (e.g., USDC) instead of ETH. A stablecoin stays close to $1 in value, so the price stays fixed in dollars and won't move with ETH's price.
The grace period
Once ENSv2 launches, the grace period will be 28 days. During this time, your name won't resolve (it stops working) and can't be transferred. Anyone can still renew it at the normal price, and nobody else can register it.
v1 names keep their 90-day grace period until they upgrade. Either way, your grace period ends on the same date: when ENSv2 launches, upgrading adds 62 days, and 90 minus 28 equals 62.
Upgrading
Watch out for scams: ENSv2 is not live yet, and no launch date is confirmed. Never renew or upgrade a name from a link in a message. Go directly to app.ens.domains instead. See Avoid common ENS scams.
When ENSv2 launches, app.ens.domains will show you what you can do with your name. Upgrading is optional.
If your name is already in its grace period, you can't upgrade right away. Renew it first, then upgrade.
Common questions
Does a year and 11 months count as two years?
No — a year and 11 months is priced at the 1-year rate. Add at least 2 full years at once to get the 2-year discount.
Do I still get the discount if I renew a name in grace?
Yes. Your discount tier is based on how much time you add, counted from the expiry date (not from today). So any days already spent in grace count towards the term you're paying for.
Do I pay gas on top of the price?
Yes. The price covers the name. Each transaction also has a network fee (gas) on top, which you'll see before you confirm.
Do I have to upgrade?
No. Your name can stay on v1, with its 90-day grace period, for as long as it stays registered — it will keep working the same way, and there's nothing you need to do. If a name is ever released after expiry, whoever registers it next gets it as a v2 name.
Can all names be upgraded?
Almost all. A small number of names locked under the older Name Wrapper can't upgrade because a permission on the name was revoked. A subname whose parent hasn't upgraded yet can upgrade once its parent does.
