Multi-year discounts
On ENSv2, add 2 or more years at once for a discount on every year. Same for registering and renewing:

Pay with stablecoins
On ENSv2 you pay in stablecoins (e.g., DAI, USDC), not ETH, so the price is set in dollars and doesn't move with ETH.
The grace period
On ENSv2 the grace period is 28 days. Your name stops working and can't be transferred, but anyone can renew it at the normal price and nobody else can register it.
Until you upgrade, the grace period stays 90 days. When ENSv2 launches, upgrading makes it 28 but adds 62 days to your registration, so it evens out: the end date doesn't move.
Upgrading
Watch out for scams: ENSv2 is not live yet, and no launch date has been confirmed. Never renew or upgrade a name using a link from a message. Go directly to app.ens.domains instead. See Avoid common ENS scams.
Optional, but recommended. Your name works either way. Upgrading adds features, and the ENS App walks you through it.
Common questions
Does a year and 11 months count as two years?
No, it's priced at the 1-year rate. Add 2 full years at once for the 2-year discount.
Does the multi-year discount apply to a name in its grace period?
Yes, on ENSv2. Years count from the old expiry date, not today: renew for 2 years and the new expiry is 2 years after the old one.
Does the multi-year discount apply to the Price Cooldown fee?
No. On ENSv2, only the registration price is discounted.
Do I pay gas on top of the price?
In the ENS App, registration and renewal include gas. Other actions, like upgrading or editing records, need a little ETH for gas.
Do I have to upgrade?
No. Your name can stay on v1, with its 90-day grace period, for as long as it's registered, and keeps working. If it's ever released, the next owner gets it as a v2 name.
Can I upgrade my name while it's in the grace period?
No. Renew it first, then upgrade. It still renews at the normal price, and nobody else can register it.
Can all names be upgraded?
Almost all. A few Name Wrapper names can't, because a permission on them was revoked. A subname can upgrade once its parent has, unless a permission on it was revoked.
