Register a .eth name (ENS Explorer)

Register a .eth name in ENS Explorer: search, pick how long, and pay in stablecoins (e.g., DAI, USDC).

Before you start

Note: onchain changes cost gas — the network fee Ethereum charges to process a transaction. It is paid in ETH from your connected wallet and goes to the network, not to ENS. Your wallet shows the exact fee before you approve.

You'll need a connected wallet on Ethereum Mainnet, with enough USDC for the registration fee and the network fee (gas).

Steps

  1. Search for the name you want. If it's available, you'll see "Available to register" with a Register button, in the search suggestions and on the name's page.

  2. Choose how long to register for. The default is 1 year at $8.00/yr for names of 5 characters or more; preset buttons show longer terms with per-year discounts, or use Pick by date.

  3. Pick a payment method (e.g., DAI, USDC) and select Register.

  4. Approve each wallet prompt in turn. Registration runs as a sequence of steps, each with its own prompt: set up your wallet's resolver (the contract that will hold your names' records), submit a commitment, approve the payment, and register the name. The resolver prompt appears only the first time this wallet registers a name.

  5. Wait for the short countdown. Between the commitment and the final step there's a security pause of about a minute; the modal counts it down and continues automatically.

  6. Done. You'll land on your new name's page with a confirmation banner showing the term and amount paid.

Your new name has a resolver from the start. The first name you register sets up your wallet's resolver; every name you register after that uses the same one, so you can add records straight away, and any access you have already given on that resolver covers the new name too. To give a name a resolver of its own, change it by hand: Change the resolver on your name in ENS Explorer.

What can go wrong

  • You navigate away mid-flow: the browser warns you before leaving the register page. Stay on the page until the final step confirms. Go back and try again - it may resume from your last point.

  • You attemps to register multiple names: the second attempt may fail. Go back and try one at a time.

Common questions

Can I pay with ETH or a card?

No. Registration on Explorer is paid in stablecoins (e.g., DAI, USDC). The network fee (gas) is paid in USDC too.

Why so many wallet prompts?

ENS uses a commit-reveal process: you first commit to the name in secret, then reveal it after a short pause, so nobody can snatch it by watching your transaction. The first name you register also sets up your wallet's resolver; later names reuse it, so that prompt appears only once. Each part is a separate wallet prompt.

How long can I register for?

Pick the number of years with the +/− stepper or choose an exact date with Pick by date. The per-year price drops with longer terms; the biggest discount applies when you register for at least 6 years.
