Troubleshoot transactions in the ENS apps

Fix a stuck, pending or missing transaction in the ENS App or ENS Explorer, plus ENS Explorer resolver and Primary Name errors.

Most stuck transactions need more time. If it's been under 15 minutes, wait.

After that, paste the transaction hash from your wallet's activity list into a block explorer such as Etherscan.

Pending for more than 15 minutes

If the block explorer shows Pending, the gas fee (the network fee) is probably too low. Speed it up or cancel it in your wallet:

  1. Open your wallet and find the pending transaction in its activity list.

  2. To speed it up, select Speed up, pick a higher fee and approve it.

  3. To cancel it instead, select Cancel and approve the replacement.

Labels differ by wallet. Either one costs gas, and the gas on the original is not refunded.

No transaction hash, or the block explorer cannot find it

The transaction never reached the network. It's a wallet problem, not a problem with your name. Disconnect your wallet, reconnect it and try again. See Connect a wallet.

If you use MetaMask, its Smart Transactions setting may be the cause. Go to Settings → Transactions → Smart Transactions in MetaMask, turn it off and try again.

Success on the block explorer, but the app has not updated

The transaction landed onchain and the ENS App or ENS Explorer has not caught up. Refresh the page. If it still does not update, disconnect your wallet and reconnect.

An upgrade runs in stages, each its own wallet request. While the name still shows Eligible for upgrade on your dashboard, it isn't finished: see Upgrade your name to ENSv2.

Some ENS Explorer pages read indexed data that can lag by minutes, so wait and refresh:

  • After you deploy a subregistry, the overview may still say None set. The Registry tab is right.

  • After you update a reverse name, Reverse Resolution can show the old value.

The Etherscan link on each step in the Transaction Manager confirms a transaction landed.

Common questions

ENS Explorer shows "Syncing changes"

Your change has landed and ENS Explorer is catching up. See How does the Transaction Manager work in ENS Explorer?.

I rejected a transaction in ENS Explorer and see a wall of code

The output under Show details is safe to ignore. Nothing was sent and you paid nothing.

ENS Explorer says "Failed to load resolvers"

Your name is fine. Turn on Deploy new permissioned resolver, or Use custom resolver if you have one.

The resolver change confirmed, but nothing resolves

The address you pasted is not a working resolver. Open Change resolver again and turn on Deploy new permissioned resolver, or paste a resolver you trust. The Resolver tab's Type card then names the resolver.

The Update button stays greyed out when I set a Primary Name

That name has no resolver. Set one, wait for it to confirm, then try again.

How do I report a problem in ENS Explorer?

Use the Feedback tab on any page. Include the name, the exact error and the transaction hash.
