Your ENS name can hold a wallet address for each chain you use, including Ethereum, other EVM chains, Bitcoin, Solana, Dogecoin, and more. For most people that is one address: the ETH Address, where ETH sent to yourname.eth on Ethereum Mainnet lands.
If you also use other EVM chains, such as Base or Arbitrum, the Default address can cover them all.
Where a payment lands
Apps look up the address for the chain you send on. On an EVM chain, they check that chain's own address first. If there isn't one, they use your Default address.
Sent on | It lands at |
Ethereum Mainnet | Your ETH Address |
Base, Arbitrum or another EVM chain | Its own address if set, otherwise your Default. |
Bitcoin, Solana or another chain that is not EVM | Its own address only. |
Set addresses in the ENS App
The ENS App uses your ETH Address on every EVM chain you switch on. It has no Default option.
Open the profile editor and go to the Addresses tab.
Enter your address under Your Ethereum Address.
Switch on the other EVM chains you want it on.
Optional: add a non-EVM chain's address under Receive on other networks.
Select Preview, then Publish changes, and approve in your wallet. You need a little ETH for network fees (gas).
Set a Default or one-chain address in ENS Explorer
Open your name's Address Resolution page.
On the Default row, or the chain's row, select More.
Enter the address, select Save, then Start.
Approve in your wallet. You need a little ETH for network fees (gas).
You can also set the Default address in the Records section: select Edit records, choose Address as the Type and DEFAULT (Any EVM chain) as the Coin, then select Add record and Save.
Primary names work the same way
You can set a Default primary name, a primary name for one chain, or both.
A primary name only shows if the name points back to your address on that chain. See What is a primary name?
Common questions
I got the name from someone else. Where do payments go?
When a name is transferred in ENS Explorer, the sender chooses whether to detach the resolver.
If they detached it: the name has no addresses until you set them.
If they didn't: the name keeps the previous owner's resolver. Their addresses stay set, and they can still edit the name's records, until you point the name at a resolver of your own.
Which chains are supported?
ENS names can hold addresses for 100+ networks, listed in the ENS address encoder documentation.
Will my wallet addresses be visible to others?
Yes. Every address you save is public and shows on your profile.
Funds sent to my name on another chain haven't arrived
ENS can't reverse a transfer or recover funds. Look the transaction up in a block explorer for the chain it was sent on to see which address received it.
