Add a decentralised website to your name

Link your ENS name to a site hosted on IPFS, Arweave or Swarm by setting its content hash in the ENS App or ENS Explorer.

You can link your ENS name to a website hosted on IPFS, Arweave or Swarm. You do this by saving the site's address as the content hash record on your name. ENS does not host the site; it only points to it.

Good to know

  • You can set the content hash in the ENS App or in ENS Explorer. The ENS App can only edit a name you have upgraded to ENSv2.

  • Saving it is a transaction, so you need a little ETH for network fees (gas).

  • Connect the wallet that owns the name.

Add it in the ENS App

  1. Open your name and select Edit Profile.

  2. Open the Other records tab. Paste your site's address, such as ipfs://bafy…, into Content hash.

  3. Select Preview, then Publish changes. Check the list of changes, confirm, and approve the transaction in your wallet.

Add it in ENS Explorer

  1. Open your name, go to Records and select Edit records.

  2. Under Type, choose Contenthash. Paste your site's address, such as ipfs://bafy…, into Value and select Add record.

  3. Select Save 1 change, then Start, and approve the transaction in your wallet.

  4. When it shows Done, the Records tab lists a contentHash row with your link.

Change or remove it

In the ENS App, edit Content hash on the Other records tab and publish the changes.

In ENS Explorer, open Edit records and edit the value on the contentHash row, or select the bin icon and then Confirm. Then save, select Start and approve the transaction.

How visitors reach your site

For a name on Ethereum, once the content hash is set:

  • Visitors can open yourname.eth.limo. eth.limo is a gateway that reads your content hash and loads the site.

  • Browsers that read ENS names, such as Brave and Opera, also open yourname.eth directly.

If the site does not load, wait and try again, then check your files are still pinned with your storage provider.

Common questions

Do I have to change the content hash every time I change my site?

With an ipfs:// link, yes: each version of the site has its own address, so save the latest one. An ipns:// link stays the same while you change what it points to.

No. The content hash is what lets yourname.eth.limo open your site.
