Records are the information stored on your name which make up your name's profile: the address it points to, your avatar and social links, and a decentralised website. Anyone can read them. To edit them, connect the wallet that owns the name, or one with a role for its records, and open the Records section in ENS Explorer.
Good to know
Saving is a transaction, so you need a little ETH for gas. Gas is the network fee; your wallet shows it before you approve. All your pending changes go into one save, however many records you edit.
Edit your records
Open your name's page and select Records. As the owner you see an Edit records button. Select it.
Choose a record Type. Text adds a Key field for the record's name; keys look like
descriptionorcom.twitter. Address adds a Coin dropdown to pick the chain. For one address on all EVM chains, pick DEFAULT (Any EVM chain).Enter the value and select Add record. This only stages the change; nothing is sent yet. A bar at the bottom of the page shows how many changes are pending, with Discard and Save.
Add or change as many records as you want, including addresses for several chains, then select Save. ENS Explorer shows the estimated cost.
Select Start, then Open wallet, and approve the transaction in your wallet. The page shows Syncing changes… while it catches up, then shows Records with the new values.
To remove a record, select the bin icon on its row in Edit records, then Confirm. Then select Save and Start, and approve the transaction in your wallet. Like any record change, it costs gas.
Common questions
Why can't I edit some or all of my records?
The Edit records button only appears when the connected wallet is allowed to manage the name: the wallet that owns it, or one that holds the role for the record you want to change. A wallet with roles for some records can edit only those. If ENS Explorer says Permissions unavailable, it could not read your wallet's roles, so editing is off. Try again in a moment.
What happens if I reject the transaction in my wallet?
Your staged edits are kept. The bar at the bottom shows the rejection with Dismiss and Retry. Retry reopens the save flow; Dismiss clears the error and leaves your edits in place.
Why can't I save my changes?
An Address record with a badly formed value is flagged in the staged list, and Save stays blocked until you fix or delete that row. A row labelled Invalid coin type holds an address under a coin type that matches no chain: delete it. If the connected wallet can't set some records you staged, for example after you switch wallet, Save stays off too. Delete those rows, or connect the wallet that holds the role for them.
Where do I set my avatar?
In the ENS App: select Edit Profile, choose the avatar, then Preview and Publish changes. See Edit your ENS profile for the steps. The ENS App can't edit the profile of a name you haven't upgraded to ENSv2.
In ENS Explorer you can add the avatar yourself as a Text record. The key is avatar. The value is a link to the image, for example a web link starting https://, an IPFS link starting ipfs://, or for an NFT, its NFT link starting eip155: (the NFT must be held by the wallet your name points to). Either way, saving needs a little ETH for network fees (gas).
