You need a wallet to make changes, such as registering, renewing or editing records. Looking up names doesn't need one. For ENS Explorer, see In ENS Explorer below.
In the ENS App
Go to app.ens.domains and select Connect in the top right.
Pick your wallet and approve the connection.
When Verify your wallet shows, select Sign in with Wallet and sign the message. This free Sign-In with Ethereum request proves you own the wallet.
When asked, select Enable Sessions and sign in your wallet. It's free. Your account menu then shows Smart sessions on. You need Smart Sessions to register or renew in the ENS App.
In ENS Explorer
On the home page, select Connect wallet under the search bar. On other pages, select Connect at the bottom of the sidebar.
Choose your wallet and approve the connection.
Once connected, the home page lists Your names with your primary name, and edit options appear on names you own.
Common questions
Is it safe to connect, and does it cost anything?
Connecting and signing in are free. Nothing is sent or changed until you approve it in your wallet. Check the address bar shows the site you meant before you connect.
How do I disconnect?
In the ENS App, open your account menu and select Disconnect. This also resets Smart Sessions, so the prompt appears again next time. In ENS Explorer, select your address at the bottom of the sidebar, then Disconnect. Disconnecting in ENS Explorer doesn't touch your wallet app itself.
How do I switch account or wallet app?
To switch account, change it in your wallet app; if the page doesn't update, disconnect and connect again. To switch wallet app, disconnect first, disable or log out of the old browser extension so its prompt doesn't get in the way, then connect and pick the other wallet.
Why do I see my address, not my name?
Your address shows until you set a primary name.
Why does my wallet ask me to sign in the ENS App?
Two signatures are free: Sign-In with Ethereum, which notifications need, and turning on Smart Sessions. Payments, renewals and record changes also ask you to approve in your wallet. Without Smart Sessions you can still browse and look up names; you're asked to turn them on when you select Pay with stablecoins, and in-app notifications need them too.
Do I still control my name with Smart Sessions on?
Yes. Smart Sessions don't change who holds your names: they stay in your wallet. To end them, select Reset smart session access in your account menu. It ends every smart session for your wallet on this network, on every browser and device, so use it if you think one has been compromised. It's a wallet transaction, so you need a little ETH for network fees (gas), and you turn Smart Sessions on again afterwards. ENS never asks for your recovery phrase.
Can I use a hardware wallet?
The ENS App and ENS Explorer connect through the wallet you pick in the Connect window. If your hardware wallet won't connect, or no prompt shows on the device, contact support with the wallet you use and what you see.
