ENS name updates happen instantly in the ENS App. However, third-party platforms such as OpenSea – or services that rely on OpenSea’s NFT metadata – may take longer to reflect changes if they use their own metadata systems instead of live onchain data.
Common issues you might see on these platforms include:
Sync delays
Outdated name records and expiry dates
Expired or unregistered names showing incorrect ownership
Newly registered names not appearing or showing as invalid
These discrepancies are usually caused by the way each platform syncs with blockchain data. On some websites, you may be able to trigger a local metadata refresh to speed up updates.
How to Refresh Metadata on OpenSea
You can manually prompt OpenSea to refresh metadata for a name:
Go to your ENS name on OpenSea
If you're having difficulty finding the name, here's a tool with quick links to locate your name on sites like OpenSea: tools.ens.xyz/check
Select the 3-dots (top right hand corner)
Click "Refresh Metadata"
Updates usually apply within a few minutes, but it can take up to a few hours depending on OpenSea's metadata syncing processes.
Still Not Updated?
Give it some time - OpenSea's cache can be slow to update
If the update hasn't appeared after 24 hours, refer to OpenSea's Help Centre for further assistance
Note that OpenSea manages its platform independently, so persistent issues should be directed to their support team
