ENS name updates happen instantly on the ENS App β but third-party platforms like OpenSea may take longer to reflect those changes. These discrepancies in ownership display across platforms can be confusing but are usually caused by how these platforms sync with blockchain data.
Common causes of these display issues on third-party platoforms include metadata sync delays (third-party platforms rely on their internal metadata systems), external dependencies on syncing (platforms may not refresh blockchain data in real-time), and expired or unregistered ENS names showing incorrect ownership information. Additionally, expired ENS names might no longer be recognised as valid, leading to discrepancies in ownership displays.
That said, you may be able to prompt the refresh of metadata on individual names to resolve these display issues more quickly.
How to Refresh Metadata on OpenSea
You can manually prompt OpenSea to refresh metadata for a name:
Go to your ENS name on OpenSea
If you're having difficulty finding the name, here's a tool with quick links to locate your name on sites like OpenSea: tools.ens.xyz/check
Select the 3-dots (top right hand corner)
Click "Refresh Metadata"
Updates usually apply within a few minutes, but it can take up to a few hours depending on OpenSea's metadata syncing processes.
Still Not Updated?
Give it some time β OpenSea's cache can be slow to update
If the update hasn't appeared after 24 hours, refer to OpenSea's Help Centre for further assistance
Note that OpenSea manages its platform independently, so persistent issues should be directed to their support team
