Pricing, fees and multi-year discounts

What a .eth name costs, and how adding more years at once cuts the price by up to about 44%.

A .eth name costs from $8 a year, plus the network fee (gas). Add two or more years at once and every year costs less, up to about 44% off.

The same discounts apply when you register and when you renew, at every name length. There is no upper limit on the years you add.

Example: 3 years for a 5+ character name costs $16.50 in total, or $5.50 a year, before the network fee: the discount covers every year of the term.

How you pay

You pay in stablecoins (USDC) from your wallet, on Ethereum or a major L2 network such as Arbitrum, Base or Optimism. On top of the price comes the network fee (gas), which you also pay in USDC when you register or renew in the ENS App or ENS Explorer. Other actions, like editing records, need a little ETH for network fees (gas); see What is gas?. The register and renew screens show the price per year and the total before you confirm. See Can I pay with stablecoins?.

If a name expires

During its grace period (28 days for an ENSv2 name, 90 days for a name still on ENSv1), an expired name can still be renewed at the normal price, and nobody else can register it. After that comes Price Cooldown. See .eth name lifecycle.

A name's lifecycle: Available, Owned, Grace Period, Price Cooldown, then Available again. You can renew any time while it is Owned or in the Grace Period.

Common questions

Why can 6 years cost less than 5?

Because the discount steps up at 6 years. For a 5+ character name, 5 years costs $27.50 and 6 years costs $27.00, before the network fee.

Does time already on my name count towards the discount?

No. The discount goes only by the years you add in that registration or renewal.

Can I pick a date instead of whole years?

Yes. The discount goes by the whole years you add: 1 year and 11 months gets the 1-year rate.

Can I register a name for less than a year?

Yes. In the ENS App, select Register to date and pick an end date; the shortest term is 28 days. The register screen shows the price for the term you pick, so go by that figure rather than working it out from the yearly price.

Has the price changed?

Yes. Names of 5 or more characters cost $8 a year, up from $5, upgraded or not; 3- and 4-character prices are unchanged. The network fee (gas) comes on top. The ENS DAO voted for this and for the multi-year discounts.
