Why won't my wallet connect or broadcast my ENS transaction?

Match your symptom in the table, then run the fix. Covers Smart Transactions, bridge drops, blind signing, firmware.

If your wallet shows a transaction as pending but Etherscan can't find the hash, the transaction never broadcast. To check, paste the hash from your wallet's activity log into Etherscan.

Smart Transactions and stuck transactions (MetaMask)

Smart Transactions can stop MetaMask sending a transaction, or showing the pop-up to confirm it. It's on by default, so if the problem comes back, check it's still off.

First: turn off Smart Transactions.

  1. In your MetaMask wallet, go to Settings → Transactions → Smart Transactions and toggle it off.

  2. Retry your transaction.

Important: if Smart Transactions broke a registration, see Got stuck mid-registration? below.

Then, if it's still stuck, clear MetaMask's local pending list (once called "Reset Account").

  1. In MetaMask, go to Settings → Developer tools → Delete activity and nonce data.

  2. Retry your transaction.

Reconnect a hardware wallet (Ledger or Trezor)

If a Ledger or Trezor used through MetaMask never asks you to confirm, the link to the device has dropped.

  1. In MetaMask, go to Settings → Developer tools → Delete activity and nonce data.

  2. Disconnect the hardware wallet.

  3. Restart your browser.

  4. Reconnect the hardware wallet.

  5. Retry the transaction.

Enable blind signing on Ledger

Ledger blocks ENS actions until you turn on blind signing in its Ethereum app. A Ledger firmware update turns it off again.

  1. Open the Ethereum app on your Ledger.

  2. Go to Settings → Blind signing.

  3. Press both buttons to enable.

Update Trezor firmware

If your Trezor won't connect to the ENS App, update its firmware in Trezor Suite, then retry. See Trezor's firmware update guide.

Got stuck mid-registration?

If a wallet problem broke a .eth registration, paste the commit hash into Etherscan:

  • Etherscan can't find it: it never broadcast, so no gas was spent. Fix the wallet problem first (for MetaMask, see Smart Transactions and stuck transactions above). Then open ens.eth.link, connect the same wallet and register again from the start. It's the same ENS App at a second address, so it starts fresh.

  • Etherscan shows it and the app is stuck on "Almost there": don't clear your cache or switch browsers yet. Work through Fix .eth registration errors.
