Open app.ens.domains, go to Settings, select Remove next to primary name, and approve in your wallet. That stops apps showing yourname.eth for that wallet — they fall back to the 0x address. You'll need a bit of ETH on Ethereum Mainnet for gas; there's no other cost.
If you're moving to a different ENS name, don't clear first — set the new one and it overrides the old. Clear when you want the wallet to stop showing a name and no replacement is coming.
Good to know
You can only clear the primary name of a wallet you're connected with.
Clearing only affects what apps display — funds sent to the name still go to whatever wallet the ETH Address points at.
Method A: ENS App (recommended)
Use this when the name's ETH Address still points at the wallet you're clearing.
Go to app.ens.domains and connect the wallet you want to clear.
Open Settings.
Select Remove next to primary name.
Review the reminder — the ENS App tells you that funds sent to the name keep arriving unless you also clear the ETH Address record.
Approve in your wallet. Most confirm in 1–2 blocks (12–24 seconds); busy networks can take longer.
Method B: tools.ens.xyz
Use this when the wallet you're clearing is no longer on the name's ETH Address — for example, after moving the name to a different wallet.
Go to tools.ens.xyz, then select Set ENS primary name and connect the wallet you want to clear.
Tick the Clear primary name checkbox.
Enter the wallet address.
Select Clear primary name and approve in your wallet. Most confirm in 1–2 blocks (12–24 seconds).
Method C: primary.ens.domains (Network primary names)
Use this for a primary name set on Base, Arbitrum, OP Mainnet, Linea or Scroll. You need a little ETH on that chain for gas.
Go to primary.ens.domains and connect the wallet you want to clear.
Search your .eth name and find the chain.
Select the bin icon and approve in your wallet.
If you have a Default primary name, it takes over on that chain. This works whether or not you still manage the name.
What clearing doesn't change
The name's ETH Address record is untouched. If it still points at this wallet, funds sent to
yourname.ethkeep arriving. To stop funds from arriving as well, change the ETH Address on the name's profile in the ENS App.
Wallets and dApps that read ENS records in real time update right away; cached sites can sometimes take a day or two.
If nothing happens when you clear it, see Fix primary name problems.
