Good to Know
You need ETH on Ethereum Mainnet to pay gas-only fees.
You can only clear the Primary Name of your own wallet.
When to clear
You do not need to clear your existing primary name when switching to a new one. Simply set the new primary name and it will automatically override the previous one.
A primary name will stop resolving correctly if you change the ETH address it points to (for example, by moving it to a different wallet). However, it can remain set in the reverse record until you assign a new primary name. In this situation, clearing the reverse record is an optional step to remove the outdated association.
How to Clear a Primary Name
Two ways to clear your Primary Name:
Using the ENS App - recommended for most users. Only possible if the name still has the
ETH Addressrecord set.Using tools.ens.xyz - use this if you're clearing the Primary Name from an old wallet, or if the
ETH Addressrecord has already been cleared.
ENS App
Go to app.ens.domains
Connect your wallet
Open Settings
Click Remove next to Primary Name
Review the message: "This name will no longer appear as the name for this address. However, transactions to this name will still resolve to this address unless you remove the ETH record."
Confirm the transaction

tools.ens.xyz
Use this if the name's ETH Address already changed:
Visit tools.ens.xyz/setprimary
Connect your wallet
Tick the Clear Primary Name checkbox.
Enter the wallet address.
Click Clear Primary Name.
Confirm the transaction
What Happens After
Clearing only affects display. If the ETH Address still points to your wallet, funds sent to the name will still arrive.
